How to Post Your Professional Photos on Instagram: Tips for Clients

My dear client! Ok, so you’ve just received your stunning professional gallery and now it’s time to share the gorgeous images with the world! I know, Instagram and facebook are the perfect platforms to showcase your beautiful images and, here are some tips to help you post your photos on social media effectively and make the most of your professional photoshoot.

Whether your professional images are for your personal account or for your brand, it is very important to know how to post the images you paid a professional photographer for. There are many details that we "photographers" take care of when capturing your special moments, details like posing you professionally, not cutting heads or feet, angles, color, rule of thirds, negative space, etc. so pay attention to these:

1. Show variety:

Post a mix of close-ups, wide shots, and different poses to keep your feed interesting.

2. Optimize Image Dimensions:

Instagram supports different aspect ratios: 1:1 (square), 4:5 (vertical), and 16:9 (horizontal), but 1:1 ration is selected by default. So, for best results, choose the same orientation (horizontal or vertical) for every picture in your post to make sure important elements aren’t cut off.

Use 1080x1080 pixels for square and 1080x1350 pixels for vertical images. Social media platforms do not like high resolution images, they implement heave images compression, resizing and formatting photos, to enable the pages to load faster. If high resolution images were included in your gallery, make sure you ask your photographer to provide the social media sharing size images.

3. Editing your images.. adding filters? Please DON'T

We, photographers, spend lots of hours making sure all of the images clients buy are perfectly done. We make sure we take care of every detail, color, contrast, brightness, composition, etc. Applying an Instagram filter on a professional photo just makes it look bad. yes, it is that simple, please don't do it. The filters were designed to “enhance” PHONE IMAGES and it can reduce the quality and diminish the professional appearance of the photo. On top of this, Photographers build their brand based on a consistent style and quality. Filters can disrupt this consistency and potentially harm the photographer’s reputation.

4. Tag the Photographer and Location

Always tag your photographer to give credit and show appreciation for their work. This also helps you connect with their audience. Trust me... you will make your photographer very happy.

Geotag the Location: Add the location of the photoshoot to make your post discoverable to others looking for similar places.

By respecting the artistic integrity of professional photos and sharing them thoughtfully, you can honor the photographer’s work and maintain a positive relationship. Your photos will not only look their best but also reflect the true talent and effort of the professional behind the lens.
